I rarely watch Cable as I use the internet for most shows to avoid commercials :) However, after watching some major networks and the commercials I do have a little more insight and thought on the matter.
I watched Toy Story on ABC Family with my daughter and was actually a little annoyed. In the time we watched I saw mainly commercials with a pg type of rating...then the commercials started for pretty little liars. I mean really did they need to air it so many times that my child now was asking why a student was having sex with a teacher and Allisons sex life. I understand these are night time shows but at the same time I wonder why they chose to air them during Toy Story when many children were watching. Other than that most of the commercials were for that particular network with only few that are on normal rimetime channels. The commercials did do a good job with creativity and peaking my interest in some of the shows i saw.I also liked that there was not a large amount of time dedicated towards commercials when they did air. But I question who the target audience is as it is so mixed.
We also watched animal planet. They had many different commercials that were targeted towards many different people. It seems as though they had commercials that were ess about the network itself and more about common items most people use such as car insurance, cars, cell phones and beer. The atrget of these ads is pretty diverse. It seems as though many of the commercials on this channel are showed on most primetime everyday networks as I had seen most of them. They did have commercials related to the channels content but not many. The ones about the channels content were creative and caused me to watch animal planet again.
I also watched other networks as well. For the most part I feel as though most networks do a good job with creatively and objectively reaching the main audience that watches that chennel.
